Catherine Britt & The Cold Cold Hearts

CATHERINE BRITT BIO

Catherine Britt has a voice that instantly gets your attention… but unlike some others, it is the craftsmanship of this singer/songwriter who unashamedly boasts a fascinating story to tell that truly keeps her audience enthralled.

She has lived a life in the world of entertainment most will never experience or dream of! The Aussie girl from Newcastle started performing and songwriting at a very young age. She hit the road for the first time at the tender age of 16 opening for Kasey Chambers & Chris Isaak on their respective national Australian tours. She then uprooted herself at 17 years of age and moved for six years to Nashville TN (USA) where she was signed to RCA Records and gained a deep knowledge of country/roots/folk history.  Catherine toured extensively and released three top 40 Billboard hits including a duet with Elton John.

Her recording career commenced in 1999 when, as a 14 year old, she released her first EP followed in 2001 by her debut album Dusty Smiles & Heartbreak Cures. Since then she has released six more studio albums and a Best Of album before the age of 30. She has collected along the way accolades, a legion of fans and a mantelpiece full of awards. They include the country industry’s highest honour with five Golden Guitar awards to date. Every one of Catherine’s six albums released to date has been nominated for the ARIA Award for Best Country Album release, which is a first for any Australian country artist. In 2010, Catherine was also presented with the Global Artist of the Year award by the American Country Music Association (CMA).

Catherine Britt’s talent has also seen her tour, perform and record with some of music’s most respected names including Sir Elton John, Don McLean, Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Dolly Parton, Kenny Chesney, Steve Earle, Guy Clark, Tommy Emmanuel, Tim Rogers and Keith Urban to name but a few.

Catherine Britt remains to this day the youngest Australian to ever perform at the Grand Ole Opry at the tender age of 17. She has performed on that esteemed stage on over 30 occasions.

Not only is she an accomplished singer/songwriter, but Catherine has also proved herself as a formidable interviewer and comfortable host while presenting Australia’s national radio program on ABC – Saturday Night Country for two years. She brought her own flavour to the popular program each week. She has also shone on television as the host of CMC’s ‘Alt Country’ program, and now as the Managing Editor & owner of Australia’s ONLY Roots Music Magazine – Rhythms. She has also ventured into the producer role since building her own home studio in her backyard in Newcastle. Just recently, Catherine organized and presented the Silverton Sunsets Music Festival which received rave reviews from media and the artists involved.

Whilst her credentials to date are enough for most, Britt’s drive to better herself and continue to improve as an artist is what has led her to continue on as one of Australia’s most successful singer/songwriters.

Now Catherine Britt is back with a brand new album after a harrowing breast cancer journey and over 8 months of treatment at the tender age of 30 years old. She has emerged from this traumatic experience and recently given birth to her first child, Hank James. She has never sounded better, her songs are more worldly and well-crafted than before and, from a girl with such life experience, she has so much to say. She has joined forces with her band The Cold Cold Hearts (Michael Muchow & Andy Toombs) to release her newest album Catherine Britt & The Cold Cold Hearts.
